Experience

Bridie is a registered psychologist and completed her Bachelor of Psychology with Honours (first class) in 2020 and a Graduate Certificate of Counselling in 2021.

Bridie is autistic and an ADHDer, her special interest is in psychology. She is very interested in helping clients within neurodiverse relationships (couples and families) develop more secure attachment bonds with their loved ones. She is also passionate about assisting neurodivergent adults and children understand their identity and cope with the anxiety and demands associated with living in a neurotypical world.

Bridie has training in many areas including:

  • Neuroaffirming practice (Dr. Monique Mitchelson, Michelle Livock and Allison Haynes)

  • Emotion Focused Couples and Family therapy (EFT)

  • Attachment neuroscience

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)

  • Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), including DNA-V (ACT adapted for children and adolescents).

  • Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP)

How is Bridie’s practice neuro-affirming?

Bridie places a lot of importance on the impact of person-environment mismatch on the presenting problems of the neurodivergent person and their loved ones. Through this lens, she considers factors like the person’s relationships, accommodations, sensory and physiological needs and unique communication style (i.e. double empathy problem) on how the person functions in different contexts. This means that the burden is not entirely placed on the neurodivergent person to learn skills to cope with their environment, but responsibility is shared between the person themselves, environmental accommodations and others around the person.

Bridie works Tuesdays to Saturdays at our Bulimba clinic.
