Experience

Belinda is a clinical psychologist who completed her Master of Clinical Psychology at Griffith University, where her research focused on the prevention of anxiety in primary-school-aged children. She later completed her Doctor of Philosophy at University of Queensland on a project investigating the influence of prenatal maternal stress from a natural disaster, and mother-infant interaction during toddlerhood, on child emotional, social and behavioural development. With a strong interest in early life risk and protective factors for child mental health, particularly those present within the family and broader system, she has most recently worked on a national longitudinal study examining the impact of prenatal maternal stress from the COVID-19 pandemic on maternal mental health and infant development, including how the health system may best support the wellbeing of mothers and babies in the context of a pandemic. Her other research work has included projects investigating worry and Generalised Anxiety Disorder, suicide prevention in the workplace, and the diagnosis of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder in young children.

Belinda’s passion for prevention and early intervention in her research extends to her clinical practice, where she has worked extensively with children, young people and families in both public and private settings. Belinda implements evidence-based strategies drawing from Cognitive-Behavioural and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy approaches, embedded within a framework influenced by theories of neurodevelopment, attachment and family systems. Her approach is collaborative and strength-based, and she enjoys working alongside parents as co-therapists to assist children to grow in their wellbeing and resilience.

Belinda works on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during school hours from our Bulimba clinic.
